The Hirzer Area at Saltaus is Simply Fantastic for Hiking. - Het Hirzer Gebied bij Saltaus is Simpelweg Fantastisch om te Wandelen
Klammeben at 1.980m

Some details about the Hirzer. The Hirzer/Punta Cervina is with its altitude of 2781m the highest mountain of the Sarntal Alps in South Tyrol (Italy).
The Hirzer is located approximately in the middle of the western ridge of the Sarntaler Alps, which separates Passeier in the west and Sarntal in the east from each other. From its main summit four ridges lead in different directions. Administratively seen, the Hirzer belongs to the South Tyrolean communities Schenna and Sarntal.
A day at the Hirzer area. In the Passeier Valley, not far from Meran/Merano lies the village of Saltaus from here the Hirzer Gondola brings you in two stages to Klammeben at 1,980m. For me hiking at the Hirzer/Punta Cervina area is a real highlight.

Excursion with children to the Taseralm, Scena, South Tyrol - Uitstapje met Kinderen naar de Taseralm, Schenna, Zuid-Tirol

Mountain Station Taser
My title is called an excursion with children as it’s the perfect place for families but also without kids it’s a great hiking area too.  Here you’ll find short and long hikes, easy to difficult
A gondola brings you in a few minutes from the valley station in Schenna/Scena to the Taseralm at 1,450m in the middle of the nature paradise of Schennaberg. The valley station has good parking and is also easily accessible by bus.
Directly at the mountain station is the Restaurant/Hotel Taser.
From here you can enjoy a magnificent mountain landscape, high above the spa town of Meran. There is also a spacious playground, a mountain zoo and the panoramic high ropes course.
Taser Mountain Chapel
A short walk from the restaurant, you’ll find a beautiful mountain chapel. Every year, on the last Sunday of July, the traditional “Taser Kirchtig” takes place, th…

Naturpark Texelgruppe
During my European trip I hiked 2 parts of the Meraner Höhenweg (More details below).
Information on the Meraner Höhenweg The Meraner Höhenweg is one of the most beautiful hiking loops in the Alpine region. The road marked No. 24 was created by AVS (Alpenverein Südtirol) mountain guides and opened in 1985. In five to eight day stages, experienced and tread-resistant mountain hikers walk nearly 100 kilometers past the Texelgroup Nature Park, accompanied by views of the mountain landscape of the Merano / Meran country, the Vinschgau and on clear days views of the Dolomites and the Ortler Massif.
The numerous entrances and exits of the Meraner Höhenweg make it possible to start the walk at different places or to descend to the valley. The access points are easily accessible by cable c…

A trip to the castles of the Dorf Tirol / Tirolo, South Tyrol, Italy - Een Trip naar de Kastelen van Dorf Tirol / Tirolo,  Zuid-Tirol, Italië

Schloss - Landwirtschaft Museum Brunnenburg

Dorf Tirol is just outside Meran/Merano on the way to the Passeier Valley / Val Passiria. It is a cozy village with many restaurants. You have to park your car at the beginning of the village or you can use the chairlift from Meran and from there it is about a 20 minutes walk to Dorf Tirol. In addition to visiting the castles, you also have many hiking opportunities here.
South Tyrol is known for its many castles (about 800 castles and fortresses) and today I visited two: Castle Tirol and Schloss Brunnenburg. Castle Tirol is impressive and Schloss Brunnenburg is small, but I found the smaller castle much more impressive, because it has more soul.
