Badlands National Park , with it’s 1,054,324 visitors in 2017 it was the busiest year of the park since 2000, according to a National Park Service release. It is not the park that you will choose for your first visit to North America if you come from Europe. But worth a visit if you are in the area, the nearest place with a direct flight from Amsterdam is Minneapolis and it is more than 800 km away. The best option, I think, is a flight to Denver via Detroit, then it is still 600 km to the Badlands NP, but you have more options to combine it into a great trip. See my tip at the end of my blog. Ötztal: Het Dal van Activiteiten voor Jong en Oud. Het eerste deel van mijn reis heb ik doorgebracht in het mooi Ötztal, een prachtig dal met vele mogelijkheden. Over het algemeen zullen de meeste mensen het dal inrijden vanaf de Inntal Authobahn maar ik, zoals eigenwijs als ik altijd ben, heb dit met een omweg gedaan via de Kühtaisattel. Dit is een 2017m hoge bergpas in de Stubaier Alpen in Tirol en is een verbinding tussen Oetz in het Ötztal en Innsbruck in het Oberinntal. De pashoogte ligt bij  Kühtai  een bekend wintersportplaats maar ook zomers geliefd bij mountainbikers en wandelaars. Kühtai heeft wel de absolute trekken van een wintersportplaats. Lake Achen seen from the Zwölferkopf Thus far I’ve never been to  Lake Achen / Achensee , last year I drove by on my way home but the lake looked so appealing that this year I stopped here for a couple of days. Some facts . Lake Achen is a lake north of Jenbach in Tyrol, Austria. It is the largest lake in the Federal State Tirol, and has a maximal depth of 133 metres. Together with the Achen Valley it divides the Karwendel Mountain range in the west from the Brandenberg Alps in the east. The water quality is near drinking water, with sight up to 10 m below the surface. As it is an alpine lake, the water temperature is accordingly low, rarely above 20 °C. Natur Park Karwendel, Tirol, Austria From hunting ground of Emperor Maximilian to the Biggest Nature Reserve in Austria. - Van Jachtgebied van Keizer Maximilliaan tot het Grootste Natuur Gebied in Oostenrijk From my base in Pertisau, I visited Nature Park Karwendel, a valley that splits into 2 accessible valleys. The road into the Park is a toll road for cars but free for bikers and hikers.  The Nostalgic Bus into the Park The  Nostalgic bus  brings you from the village of Pertisau, with several stops, to the Gramaialm lying in the left fork of the park.  Here you find  Hotel & Restaurant Gramai ****S  and a small cheese store. Be prepared for a lot of visitors, even today on a Tuesday and outside the holiday season it was very very crowded.
