Mono Lake by American Southwest

Mono Lake is een zoutmeer in de Amerikaanse staat Californië, in Mono County. Het ligt tussen de Sierra Nevada en de White Mountains, ten oosten van Yosemite National Park.
Mono Lake staat bekend om de grillig gevormde zoutpilaren nabij de zuidwestelijke oever. De saliniteit (het zoutgehalte) is met 7,5% ruim tweemaal zo hoog als zeewater (3,5%).
Het meer is een zeer productief ecosysteem, en van grote betekenis voor talloze vogelsoorten die in de omgeving leven.

Mono Lake is a large, shallow saline soda lake in Mono County, California.
It lies between the Sierra Nevada and the white Mountains, east of Yosemite National Park
Mono Lake is known for its whimsical shaped salt pillars near the southern West Bank. The salinity is more than twice as high as 7.5% sea water (3.5%).
The Lake is a highly productive ecosystem, and of great significance for numerous bird species in the environment.
