Europa is in oppervlakte tweemaal kleiner dan de Verenigde Staten en telt tweemaal zoveel inwoners, en toch is de kans om hier een wolf tegen het lijf te lopen aanmerkelijk groter.

Europa's surface is twice smaller than the United States and has twice as much inhabitants, and though the chance in bumping into a wolves is much bigger.


De kans bestaat echter dat de eerste groep wolven zich binnen afzienbare tijd vestigt in onze bossen. Aanwijzing daarvoor is dat het aantal meldingen van wolven die worden gesignaleerd aan de grens met Duitsland toeneemt. De populatie bij onze oosterburen en in Polen stijgt explosief.

There is a chance that the first group of wolves establishes itself in the foreseeable future in our forests. Indication is that the number of reports of wolves sightings close to the border with Germany is increasing. The population rises explosive in Poland and our eastern neighbors.

Uit tellingen van de universiteit blijkt dat er in Europa 17.000 bruine beren rondlopen, verspreid over 22 landen. Er zijn 9000 lynxen geteld in 23 landen en meer dan 12.000 wolven in 28 Europese landen. Rusland, Oekraïne en Wit-Rusland, waar grote aantallen van deze wilde dieren leven, zijn buiten het onderzoek gehouden.

Counts from the University show that in Europe there are 17,000 brown bears walking around, spread across 22 countries. There are 9000 Lynx counted in 23 countries and more than 12,000 wolves in 28 European countries. Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, where large numbers of these wild animal life, are held outside the research.
